The Tudal Family and “Team Tudal” draw upon Four Generations of Growing & Winemaking (Timeline attached) experience to create a portfolio of limited-production fine wines. Now into our 5th decade operating the iconic Tudal Winery in St. Helena, Napa Valley, we proudly grow and produce our Signature (and world-class) wine “Tudal Estate Cabernet Sauvignon” on site from our estate vineyard that we planted in 1972. Photo taken in 1972 staking and planting the Tudal Estate Vineyard depicts grandfather George “Baci” Cerruti (1st Generation Grower), Arnold Tudal (2nd Generation Grower & Winemaker), and John Tudal (3rd Generation and current Proprietor).
One of the many valued “Team Tudal” members is noted winemaker Kirk Venge who joined our mission in 2009. Arnold Tudal would have been very pleased that we enrolled the talented son of his good friend and advisor Nils Venge. 2011 will be another milestone year as we release the 30th vintage of our Signature Wine – Tudal Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.
“Uncle” Joe DiMaggio, baseball Hall-of-Famer, native San Franciscan, and frequent visitor to Arnold and Alma Tudal’s St. Helena winery home bounces baby Matt Tudal Fidge (4th Generation, Asst. Winemaker) on his knee in this photo. Matt’s all grown up now (right photo) and the able assistant to Kirk Venge at Tudal Winery.
Look to our “Vineyard Series” for other limited-production world-class wines including single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from “Clift Vineyard” in Oak Knoll District, “Maldonado Vineyard”, Napa Valley Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir “Bacigalupi Vineyard”.
Our “Winery-Icons Series” of wines depicts unique symbols near-and-dear to us across our four generations in the vineyard and at the winery. The world-famous Tractor Shed Red Proprietary Red Blend, produced annually since the ’97 vintage, symbolizes this “Winery-Icons Series”. This crowd-pleasing brand carries the important icon of our ’47 Massey-Harris Red Tractor that “Baci” Cerruti purchased new in ’47, and which still stands proudly at the winery outside the historic Tractor Shed.
Another Tudal Family milestone for 2011 includes the opening of our second winery homestead “Cerruti Cellars” and Tasting Room in urban Jack London Square, Oakland. Named in tribute to our patriarch and 1st generation California Grower George “Baci” Cerruti, an Italian emigrant from Genoa that lived to the ripe age of 99 to witness so many of our memorable occasions. We were quite fortunate to create this home for Cerruti Cellars by acquiring and transforming this unique building that was built in the 1920′s for cold storage by the Armour Food Company. This burgeoning Jack London Square location holds considerable significance to the Tudal Family as it is just around the corner from the century-old Produce Market in Oakland (still in operation) where grandfather “Baci”, father Arnold, and I brought harvests for commercial sale dating back to 1932. Come for a visit and view our many growing and winemaking relics from the past along with our current award winning wines. Cerruti Cellars is also directly across the street from the soon-to-open Jack London Marketplace, which will house artisanal food and wine purveyors.
